Getting involved in sport is easy when you move to the Moreton Bay Regional Council area, and a new skating rink marks the latest addition to the list of facilities.
The rink cost $51,000 to construct and has been built to the Women's Flat Track Derby Association's international standards.
"For roller derby enthusiasts it delivers a safer environment to practice their skills in preparation for the rough, tumble and spectacle of amateur competition," said division eight councillor Mick Gillam.
However, it's also hoped that other skaters will be keen to use the facility, which also boasts a coloured concrete surface and hand rails that are sure to be useful for beginners.
Councillor Gillam said the Rob Akers Reserve outdoor skating rink is open to people of any ability and will hopefully become a key part of the local community.
